Sustainable Living

As a preeminent research university with over 60,000 faculty, staff, and students, USC is one of the largest private employers in the City of Los Angeles, as well as one of the largest customers of our municipal water and energy utility. Our actions have enormous environmental impacts – not just on campus, but across L.A. and around the world. That’s why sustainability is a fast-growing focus of teaching, research, and operations at USC.

USC is committed to developing the necessary teams, tools, systems, and processes to facilitate campus sustainability on all fronts. Our roadmap for progress is the 2020 Plan, a comprehensive set of goals across seven core areas, and specific strategies for how we will attain them. The 2020 Plan is a baseline tool for understanding USC’s sustainability opportunities and challenges, and the foundation for our work ahead.
