Steps to apply to become a Resident Assistant

Application Process

Complete each step below to be considered for the Resident Assistant position.

Review the application resources on the ResEd website: 26–27 RA Position Description, 26–27 RA Position Agreement, and Tips for a Successful RA Application.
Complete the RA Application. The application opens November 20, 2026.
Participate in Part I interviews.
Participate in Part II interviews.
Receive your decision.

Selection process: After steps 3, 4, and 5, the RA Selection Committee will select candidates to advance in the process.

Eligibility and Position Information

Ph.D. students are not eligible to serve as Resident Assistants. USC’s Graduate School has advised that the time constraints and demands of Ph.D. study make the position incompatible with Ph.D. programs. Students in doctoral programs that are not Ph.D. programs, such as an Ed.D., may apply.

The 26–27 RA Position Description and 26–27 RA Position Agreement are available as references and describe the scope of the position in the Office for Residential Education. These documents may change. Finalized 27–28 documents will be shared with candidates at the time of a position offer in February 2027.
