Twenty-four of USC’s most prestigious faculty members and their families live and work within the Residential Colleges. Established in 1978, the Faculty in Residence serves as a mentor, adviser, advocate and facilitator to lead the development of an academic focus for the community in partnership with the Residential Education staff. These Faculty in Residence live in custom-designed apartments within each of the Residential Colleges. Having faculty live with students encourages students’ engagement with faculty where they live, but also leads to enhanced relationships with other faculty in the classroom and laboratory.
Eligibility
- USC Status: must be full-time members of the University faculty
- Commitment: must support the benefits of a living/learning environment, be strongly committed to education outside of traditional academic framework, and have a willingness to make the necessary investment in time and energy in support of the aims of the Residential College program
- Communication: must be an excellent communicator in both one-one and group settings
- Programming: must be an effective programmer, including conception, promotion, implementation and assessment
- Versatility: able to work collegially and effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty and staff
- Approachable: accessible and approachable to students
- Residence: must make their provided apartment their primary residence and maintain visibility within their community

- Meal Package: receive a meal package for self and partner/spouse to be used in the Residential Dining facilities
- Pets: permitted to have one dog or cat (see pet policy)
- Parking Priority: the ability to purchase two (2) reserved parking spaces (if needed) in the associated parking facility
